Dana's Story

I recently met a kind 'Gori Sikh' girl from across the ocean. Here is her story, that she wishes to share with you on my blog~~* I hope it may inspire you, and bring awareness that there are indeed many people from around the world discovering Sikhism... welcome them with big hearts~~~

Dana's Story:

"I always knew that my life is going to be colourful and eventful. I was born in former USSR, now Latvia. I could have stayed in Latvia but something brought me to Emerald Island. Here I met my husband, who introduced me to his culture and religion. Sikhism. Did I know about it? No. Never heard before. Who are the Sikhs? Those people in turbans?

My introduction to Punjabi culture and Sikhism was through Punjabi music, bollywood movies, going to gurudwara and visiting Punjab... sorry I forgot food of course (aloo matar, chapatis, sabji and mirchi).

Sikhism is 5th largest religion and I didn't know about before. My family is from Catholic background. When I was small, I was sent for religion lesson to the church, I was reading kid's bible, going to church....but something wasn't right....

Who am I? I feel I'm a sikh... I didn't convert... I just live and learn everyday more and more about Sikhism. I wish I could read Gurmukhi and speak Punjabi, visit one day Miri Piri Academy. I feel strongly about Sikh culture and would love to create more awareness about who Sikhs are.

GOD IS TRUTH. Three words but so much truth! I always thought that if you are truthful to yourself and others, there is a hope.

The reason I created Gora Sikh blog because I wanted to find other goras and share my experience. As well me and my partner, we run Desi Legend blog and Desi Legend T-shirt Shop. Everyone is welcome!"
